Classes & Tuition

Los Gatos Parent Nursery School offers four age-appropriate and dynamic preschool programs for children from 2 to 5 1/2 years old.

2020-2021 Information

Due to Covid-19, we are unable to offer in-person learning this year. On July 13, 2020, the County of Santa Clara released a mandatory directive that outlined requirements for programs for children, including preschools. That directive stated that in-person “parent participation is not allowed at this time.” Being a parent-participation, co-operative preschool, the teachers and board of directors voted to develop a remote learning program to begin the 2020-2021 school year. The board and teachers worked diligently over the summer to create an exciting, robust remote learning curriculum that has the flexibility to include in-person “pod play” when it is safe to do so. Enrollment Deadline for the 2020-20201 school year: Families are welcome to join our program at the beginning of each month.  In order for us to have sufficient time to prepare, we ask that your first month’s deposit and all Enrollment paperwork be completed 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the month you wish to enroll.

In the Classroom

In each classroom experience there is an experienced and enthusiastic teacher that runs the day and facilitates large group activities such as circle time. In addition to the teacher, there are also several parents present to assist in supervision and to lead small group activities such as arts & crafts, science projects and outside activities like gardening, sandbox and water play, bubbles and more.

A high ratio of adults to children helps ensure that each child’s needs are met, that discipline issues are kept to a minimum, and that children can feel secure, confident and well attended in their learning environment.

Our primary goal at LGPNS is for your child to thrive in their preschool experience. As such we will work to place them in the class that is appropriate for both their physical and emotional development.

Terrific Twos (Age 2 by Dec. 31st)

Terrific Twos is the youngest class at LGPNS and meets every Friday afternoon. Parents have the unique opportunity to be a part of their child’s first school experience and attend each class with their child. The focus of this class is on social and emotional development. Two year olds have endless energy and curiosity. The Terrific Twos class encourages children to actively explore their environment with confidence and autonomy. We want our emerging preschoolers to learn that school and learning are magical!

2-Day Morning Program (Age 2.5-3.5)

In the 2-day Morning Tuesday/Thursday morning class for 2.5-3.5 year olds, children learn basic social and emotional development, language and communication skills, as well as pre-reading and cognitive skills. Children are challenged with developmentally appropriate activities to promote these skills. Through play and simply having fun, we create a foundation for future emotional, social and academic success.

3-Day Morning Program (Age 3-4)

The 3-day Morning Monday/Wednesday/Friday morning class is designed for the child between 3-4 years old. Art, science, games, music, movement, and social times are all designed to support each developmental domain of the child, in a safe and nurturing environment. Focus is on scaffolding their skills, fostering their self-esteem, empowering them to use their voice, and guide their self-regulation skills, which prepares them for the next level of their education  and beyond.

Pre-Kindergarten/PM Program (Age 4-5.5)

The 4-Day Pre-Kindergarten/PM Class prepares children for elementary school by familiarizing them with the concepts and skills they will master in kindergarten. LGPNS provides concrete, hands-on experiences in science, literacy, math, the arts, drama, public speaking, and music/movement. We foster this growth in an atmosphere of encouragement and support where discovery, play, free choice activities and open ended learning opportunities build confidence, independence, curiosity, and empathy for others.

Why a Nursery School?

While “preschool” is defined as classes before children are prepared to go to elementary school, a nursery school is defined as a school for young children. Los Gatos Parent Nursery School has been focused on early childhood education, teaching young children and parents together in a loving supportive environment since 1946.
